American Legion Post 630 recognized two City of Blue Ash first responders for the first annual Safety Service Awards. Both recipients were awarded plaques at the October 12^th City Council meeting.

Firefighter Scott Goldschmidt was selected by the fire department as “Firefighter of the Year.” Firefighter Goldschmidt has spent the past 5 years working tirelessly to make the City of Blue Ash better and safer.  Firefighter Goldschmidt was recently recognized for stopping his vehicle to help a stranded driver. He also took on the extensive task of updating the department’s map books, ensuring the correct addresses are listed for each home and business, along with the nearest fire hydrant. Firefighter Goldschmidt is often viewed as a mentor by younger department members, and steps into leadership roles, when needed. In his free time, Firefighter Goldschmidt improves his knowledge and skills by taking classes and earning certifications in various disciplines associated with emergency services.

Officer Brendan McKinney joined the Blue Ash Police Department in 2013. He was selected by the BAPD as the 2017 “Police Officer of the Year.” Officer McKinney takes immense pride in providing the highest quality services to the community and citizens.  He currently serves as a Patrol Officer, a Field Training Officer, and is a certified specialist to respond to persons in crisis or suffering from mental illness. He has been recognized 10-times by his supervisors and residents for his dedication.  When he’s not working, Officer McKinney volunteers around the community and furthers his education through training.  

Post 630 also presented a Perpetuity Award, which includes the names of the this year’s recipients, as well as space for many others names, as the post plans to honor Blue Ash police and firefighters for many years to come.
