Duke Energy Conducting Residential Gas Line Inspections

CINCINNATI -- Duke Energy, through its contractor, The Southern Cross Co., will conduct mandatory interior gas meter and line inspections in area homes and small businesses.

The inspections maintain compliance with federal and state pipeline regulations and help ensure Duke Energy is able to deliver natural gas to its customers in a safe and reliable manner.

Inspections will begin in February and take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Neighborhood door-to-door inspections will be complete by the end of August and scheduled appointments for inspections completed by mid-October.

Inspection Process

One month before Southern Cross Co. is scheduled to conduct door-to-door inspections in an area, it will send a letter to the local officials for that area. Residents of each neighborhood will be sent a letter ten days before the inspections are to begin. Southern Cross Co. will also call customers approximately three days before inspectors are scheduled to be in their area. If no one is home when inspectors arrive, a door hanger will be left instructing customers to call 844-465-2947 to schedule an appointment. Failure to allow access to Duke Energy’s facilities may result in disconnection of natural gas service, as authorized by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

To verify the contractor is with the Southern Cross Co., employees will:

• Carry a Duke Energy photo badge at all times that identifies them as a contractor
• Wear yellow safety vests with their logo
• Have signage on their vehicles identifying Southern Cross Co.
